Our Planning Process

Planning Blog Props:  My group decided to film a music video with the song “a lot” by 21 Savage. So in order to maintain the conventions of traditional rap videos or parodies we watched while researching, we decided to include fake money, water guns, shovels, headphones, and plushies.  In the music video, we are planning on having a montage of skits that correlate to the lyrics of the song, as a majority of the lyrics in the timeframe we chose has a series of questions that are all responded with “a lot”. So throughout the video in order to better fulfill the skit, we’ll include props such as fake money, a water gun, a shovel, headphones, plushies, a math worksheet, and a car.  Costume: Our music video will primarily feature two high school “gangsters”, so the costumes will need to represent street thug attire. To obtain this, the actors will be wearing hats with sunglasses and a chain. Sneakers will also be worn by the actors to further the casual look. For our costumes, we chose to

Our Research

Research Blog For our music video, we chose the song A Lot by 21 Savage which is a rap song. We looked through many songs on Spotify and found that 21 Savage was our best option. After we found our song, we researched many music videos to try and come up with something we could make. In these music videos, usually, there are many different shots of the singer in different places singing their song. Every place they go to they have a different outfit and are with different people. In 21 Savage music videos, his costumes are usually simple suits or streetwear fits. The conventions in rap songs are usually the performer rapping towards the camera like they are talking to the audience. A lot of time they shoot these shots at a low angle. A lot of rap music videos are also known to be narrative-heavy and usually have a part where the rapper is lip-syncing. For example, we looked at Eminem's music video "Lose Yourself" and saw that half the time Eminem is lip-syncing the lyric

Group Blog:     For this music video project, I chose to group up with one of my best friends Andres Santana. Due to his last name being Santana, I call him Santa as a nickname. Santa is a great person who I get along with super well. His work is always done on time, and he is intelligent in many subjects. One of the main reasons I chose to work with him is because he is easy to get along with and he hears out people's opinions. There is always a way to compromise if we don't like each other's ideas. Working with him on this project will be easier than working with anyone else for multiple aspects. We live close and can get together a lot which works out well for us. We also have alike schedules which makes it even better for us. The coolest thing about me and Santa is that we have opposite birthdays. Santa’s birthday is January 6th, 2007 while my birthday is June 1st, 2007. He is also in debate. We met in debate and instantly became best friends. He does public forum w

Intro to Me

Intro Blog  Hi, my name is Lauren Reitman. Debate is one of my favorite school activities. In debate, I have many friends including Andres, Sarah, Mia, Oscar, Balkis, and Joe. Most of them are older than me but it’s okay because I prefer to be around ppl more mature and older.  I love the performing aspect of debate where you can compete with random people to earn a medal. In my opinion, everyone should be in debate to experience how fun it actually can be when you find the right topic. I'm a sophomore and I spend most of my time with friends doing fun things outside of school. My life is mostly based on school and debate. School takes up most of my time since I'm in high school. But besides school, I spend my time playing video games and listening to music. My life is a little bit chaotic. There's never a time in my life when things are stable. I am always running around or doing something. But when I finally settle down something new pops up. Most of it is good though. S

Throughout this project, I learned a lot. It has been a great experience with many stepbacks but overall I enjoyed doing it. There is still much I can improve on but this is still a learning experience for the next project I will do like this one. I am happy with how the video turned out and the development I've gone through during this experience.                      1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?  My product challenges conventions as traditionally these paddle boards are used at the beach, lake, or other large bodies of water. However, I use my product right in my own backyard at an Intracoastal, rather than these other bodies of water. Along with this, my advertisement concludes with a final shot of the board itself on land, rather than the typical wide shot of the board being used on water, as seen in many advertisements I analyzed in research for this project. A social issue my product challenges is str
